Ground testing of the Hypersound Uniflow Aero-Jet Engine (HUAJE)
module is to be carried out in the first quarter of 2001.
Preparation for the testing has already begun in the Central Institute of
Motor-Building, the Baranov State Research Centre.
Tests are planned to take place at a special test bench in Turaevo
(Moscow region). The test bench allows large-scale HUAJE
models to be tested under surface conditions in a free air jet at the
rate seven times that of the sound speed.
The hypersound engine under investigation will operate on liquefied
hydrogen. Combustion efficiency of this fuel for the speeds until 6.5M
in a supersound air flow is proved to be high, according to the results
of flying tests in the frame of KHOLOD project.
Creation of the hypersound engine being dependent on investments, CIMB
is currently carrying on talks with a number of Russian and foreign
institutions which may be interested in joint work on the Research
Hypersound Flying Apparatus project. Cooperation with heading engine-
building companies would permit to begin testing flights of the hypersound
laboratory as soon as in 3 or 4 years, as reported by Military News
Agency.
